Running Playlist For A Fast-Paced Run

When it comes to a running playlist I need fast BPM's. I know many people who are able to run while listening to any type of music, watching tv or even reading. However, I am not one of those people. I learned very early on that my running playlist strongly influences my running pace. When I'm creating a playlist I look for energetic songs that have fast BPM's (beats per minute). A playlist that has songs with high tempos are going to keep me at a quick, even pace throughout my run. Which is exactly what I need! International flavour.…

Why I Love Winter Running (And You Should Too!)

I love winter running. When I first started running in the summer of 2017, I was unsure about how running in the winter was going to go. While I happily live in Canada, I am not a fan of the cold and snow. Which is kind of too bad considering it is winter half of the time here. But after 2 months of running indoors on a treadmill, the pure boredom forced me to give winter running a real shot. And kind of surprisingly, I fell in love! I'll be honest, my first winter run was pretty hairy but that's…

Anxiety and depression are the worst. There's really no other way to say it. Mental illness effects every single aspect of one's life. It affects how you see yourself, your physiology and how you experience the world around you. And if you're a chronic sufferer (like me!), managing your anxiety and depression takes up a large part of your day-to-day. So, this is a little bit of a self-serving post. Yes, I want to share what helps me and hopefully help others. But also, I'm hoping this post connects me with other women who have chronic anxiety and depression and…

Setting fitness goals can be a challenge of you've never done it successfully before. Weight-loss, regardless of how much you have to lose, takes hard work, patience and dedication. Which is something that is easy to say but much more difficult to do. Because even with the best of intentions, without a concrete plan, reaching weight-loss and/or fitness goals can be extremely difficult. Or most likely, impossible. Think about it. How many times have you heard of someone reaching a fitness or weight-loss goal without a plan in place? Most people set a number in their head that they want…

Last week I signed up for my first 10km race! I've been talking about my goal of running a 10km race for a few months now. Actually, I've been talking about a race pretty much since I started running again. But as everyone knows, there is a big difference between talking about something and putting down the money and committing. And knowing that race prices will be going up in a few weeks, I knew it was time to make a real commitment and dedicate my training to a specific race. Either that or pay an extra $25 dollars for…

**This post contains affiliate ads. For more information please read the disclosures page.** Before you can set goals, you need to find your why. So last week I posted a condensed version of my background and a bit of my journey so far. And I was going to write about goal setting, but I realized something really important came before goals. And that's the reason why you're setting goals in the first place. You might be like, okay well, my goal is obviously to lose weight or get in shape. But I've learned your why needs to be much deeper…

My journey toward a healthy lifestyle began 2 years ago. I've been both looking forward to and equally dreading writing this blog post. But seeing as my weight-loss story is a big part of how this blog came to be, it seems only right that I should share the story early on. Like many people who have lost a lot of weight (50+ pounds), my story has less to do with calories input and output. Rather, my story is about discovering a healthy lifestyle that not only benefited my body but also my mind and soul. If you've checked out…

***This post contains Affiliate Links. For more information please see Disclosures.*** Preparing for your first run can be daunting. Chances are, even if you're excited to get running, you're a little nervous about that very first run. I speak from lots of experience! I have had three first runs! The first was back in 2012 when I was training for my very first 5km race. At that time, I was close to my heaviest weight and was wanting to try for a baby. So, I tried running for a few months in an effort to get in better shape for…
